Location. Hot tub in the unit.
Although it was clean, the unit was badly in need of refurbishment. The owners (who were extremely pleasant) said that they had just sold the motel and the new owners were going to carry out the refurbishment.

Friendly and helpful staff and centrally located to the CBD
No water in the spa pool and the rooms are starting to look a bit tired

I liked that the owners had remembered I had stayed at their with them before. I liked that the owners allowed my sister and her whanau to come and have breakfast with us the morning that we were to check out. I liked that the owners took the time to heat our room before we arrived which was late around 7.30pm. I liked that the owners packed up my boys blue crocheted blanket (hand made by his mother) which was left in the room and left it at reception for us to collect. I liked that they were friendly, welcoming and warm to us and my whanau. Because of this I would consider this as my first choice of accommodation whenever I stay in Taupo.

The staff was welcoming, nice, and attentive to guests. the hotel is conveniently located near the pub, Lake, and mountains.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gables, we had our 3 year old and 11 year old boys along with us this trip so the Spa pool attached to the room was very handy. Saved a bunch of trips to the pool and a cold walk back as in alot of other places we have stayed. Beds were comfy and kitchen area handy with Microwave included. Overall a comfortable and enjoyable stay :-)
T.v was a little small and there was no cartoon channel, however we were lucky to have some good family movies on so it did not matter to much. Just with kids along for the ride it is nice to be able to snuggle down to a bit of t.v quiet time which is why I probably noticed it this time around :-)
